Childress To Be Back in 2007

As he left the stadium, Vikings owner Zygi Wilf said change is in the offing. But not at the top of his Triangle.

Wilf said Childress “absolutely” would be back, and he insisted the Vikings are headed in the right direction, even though they finished with a 6-10 record after a 9-7 season in 2005.

“There were a lot of changes we had to make, and it’s going to take time,” Wilf said. “It’s a long-term process, and we want to build a strong foundation.”

Childress Chases Senser Off Vikings Broadcast Team

Former Vikings tight end Joe Senser said Sunday he will not return next season as the team’s radio analyst, citing coach Brad Childress’ media restrictions as playing a key part in his decision.

“My role as an analyst consists of my ability to interact with players and coaches, and because of Brad Childress’ policy relating to watching practice and talking to those inside the organization, my ability to do this job effectively had been severely limited,” said Senser, who has served as analyst on KFAN (1130 AM) since the station reacquired the team’s rights in 2001.

Kick Ass Offense?

A day after the Vikings managed three first downs and 104 total yards in a 9-7 loss to Green Bay, coach Brad Childress defended his version of the West Coast scheme and suggested that poor execution — and not philosophy — has limited its effectiveness. Childress indicated that not all of his players are well-suited for the system and responded in neutral terms when asked whether he would continue calling plays next season.

”I know it’s a kick-ass offense when it’s executed properly,“ Childress said. ”It’s been done with all different levels of people and personnel. But I’m not shaken. It’s a multiple system that you can run in just as easily as you can throw it, and we need to become better at it. That’s my job.“
