Kreutz Gives Williams His Due
The verbal beefs between Olin Kreutz and Pat Williams are well documented.
But the Chicago Bears’ Pro Bowl center acknowledged that the Vikings defensive tackle’s selection to the Pro Bowl was long overdue.
“Pat is the best run stuffer in the league, by far, of all the guys I’ve played against,” Kreutz said Sunday night as the Bears settled into their local hotel. “Even though we don’t get along or whatever, wherever he goes, it’s the No. 1 run defense, and that’s because of him.”

Daunte’s Problems In His Head, Not Knees, Saban Believed
Publicly, everyone keeps pointing at Culpepper’s surgically repaired knee last season to explain his problems at quarterback. Privately, as it turns out, Nick Saban felt the knee was fine and the real problem was further north on the anatomy chart, a Dolphins source says.

Sharper Says He Will Be Back
Minnesota Vikings Safety Darren Sharper met with Head Coach Brad Childress and Defensive Coordinato Mike Tomlin about his future with the Vikings. Sharper was benched in the 4th Quarter of the Vikings final game against the Rams. He had openly questioned the benching and whether he would be back in a Vikings uniform.
A chastined Sharper has apparently reconsidered following his meeting with Childress. “It’s nothing, I overreacted,” Sharper said. “The coaching staff had pulled a lot of players out (of that game).”

Childress Taps Stewart as Wide Receivers Coach
Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress named George Stewart their new wide receivers coach Wednesday, replacing Darrell Wyatt in what was a weak spot for the team this season.
Stewart spent the last four seasons coaching the Atlanta Falcons wide receivers. He was with the San Francisco 49ers from 2000 to 2002, when Terrell Owens averaged 97 receptions and earned Pro Bowl berths in each season.
Stewart has also been a part of playoff teams in Pittsburgh, San Francisco and Atlanta. This will be his 25th season of coaching, and 19th in the NFL.
In college, he coached Minnesota’s offensive line in 1984 and 1985 under Lou Holtz, then moved with Holtz to Notre Dame, where Stewart coached the linebackers and was part of the undefeated 1988 national championship team.

Spielman & Childress Sittin’ In A Tree……
Vikings vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman on his relationship with coach Brad Childress:
“It’s become extremely close. It’s like when you first go to a dance with your wife, and you’re going through issues for the first time. Roster issues, things like that. You dance, and you’re figuring out each other a little bit. But I would say, it’s been outstanding. It’s been one of the best I’ve been (in) as far as being close to a head coach and understand what he needs and what we need to get on this roster for our coaches to be successful in the systems they’re trying to run.”

Can We Blame Childress for the New Gopher Coach?
Mike Max just reported on WCCO television that Minnesota Athletic Director Joel Maturi consulted with Brad Childress on the hiring of a new football coach at the University of Minnesota. If you have not heard the University of Minnesota just hired Tim Brewster. Brewster was most recently a tight ends coach with the Denver Broncos. Apparently, Brewster was a tight end on the 1982-83 University of Illinois team that played in the Rose Bowl. Childress was a running back / receivers coach for Illinois at the time.
Was Brewster a good hire? I have my doubts. He has been out of the college game for 5 years. He has never even been a coordinator at any level. His head coaching experience is:
1987-88 - Head Coach, Central Catholic High School, Lafayette, Indiana
He was supposedly a great recruiter five years ago at Texas. Thats like hiring the doorman at Le Cirque because you like the food.
