Can We Blame Childress for the New Gopher Coach?

Mike Max just reported on WCCO television that Minnesota Athletic Director Joel Maturi consulted with Brad Childress on the hiring of a new football coach at the University of Minnesota. If you have not heard the University of Minnesota just hired Tim Brewster. Brewster was most recently a tight ends coach with the Denver Broncos. Apparently, Brewster was a tight end on the 1982-83 University of Illinois team that played in the Rose Bowl. Childress was a running back / receivers coach for Illinois at the time.

Was Brewster a good hire? I have my doubts. He has been out of the college game for 5 years. He has never even been a coordinator at any level. His head coaching experience is:

1987-88 - Head Coach, Central Catholic High School, Lafayette, Indiana

He was supposedly a great recruiter five years ago at Texas. Thats like hiring the doorman at Le Cirque because you like the food.
